Snowshoes make walking in winter easier.
Walking through deep snow is a hard work. But Canada’s
native people invented a way to make it much easier.
Native people used snowshoes.They made the shoes with wood and leather. The Snowshoes spread their weight over a larger area.This allowed them to float on top of the soft snow instead of sinking.
Snowshoes were very important to Canada’s early settlers. They made it possible for the settlers to get away in the winter.
Today we have snowmobiles, but snowshoes are still popular. Hunters use them.People also use them for winter hiking and bird watching.
