(1) The Policeman and the Thief
Once, a new policeman caught a thief in a small town, and decided to bring him back to the police station in the city. On their way they came to a shop where bread was sold. “ We have no food, and we must be hungry after a while. Let me go into the shop and buy some bread for us. Wait here for me.” The thief said.
The policeman agreed with him and waited in the street for a long time , but thief didn’t come out of the shop. The policeman began to be worried ,and ran into the shop, he couldn’t see the thief but the back door of the shop.
The policeman had to go back to the police station alone, and he was very unhappy.
Luckily, the policeman caught the thief at the same place the next day. When.they walked though the same street and the same shop, “ Wait here,” said the policeman “ Last time you ran away from the shop. This time , I’ll go into the shop and buy the bread , and you must wait here for me.”
警察与小偷
一次, 一个新上任的警察在小镇上抓住了一个小偷,他决定把这小偷押送到城里警察局去.在路上,他们路过了一家面包店.“我们没带吃的,呆会儿肯定会饿的,让我去给咱们买点面包.你在这等等我啊.”小偷说道.
警察同意了,并在街上等了很长一段时间,但是,小偷一直没有从商店出来.警察开始担心了,他跑进商店,除了一扇开着的后门,他什么也没看见.
警察不得不很郁闷的独自回到了警察局.
幸运的是第二天,他在同一地方又抓住了那小偷.当他们路过同一条街,同一家商店时,“在这等着我,”警察说道,“上次,你从这家商店溜了,这次,我去买面包,你必须在这等我!”
(2) Bill and His Dog
Bill’s shoes were worn out.. Since he was unlucky recently he decided to throw them away. One day, he went to the rubbish pit far from the city and threw the old shoes into it. Then he returned home , lay down and slept.
But he had a dog, and the dog often went to the rubbish pit to look for food . On that day , the dog saw the shoes in the pit and knew they were its master’s. So the dog took one of the heavy shoes in its mouth and went slowly with it, and left it at it at Bill’s bedside. Then the dog fetched the other shoe in the same way.
When Bill woke up,he saw the shoes by his bed and he was very afraid. The shoes can walk by themselves, they must be done away with it, he thought. Then he made a large fire in front of his house and put the shoes on it.
Just then a strong wind was blowing, and before long the fire made the house begin burning. His neighbour immediately came out but could do nothing.The house burnt down,but the old shoes were saved by the honest dog again.

比尔的鞋穿坏了,由于最近运势不佳,比尔决定把这旧鞋扔得远远的.一天,他来到离城很远的垃圾坑,把鞋扔了进去.然后,回到家里躺下睡觉.
比尔有一只狗,经常到那垃圾坑里去找食物.那天,它正好看见了并立马认出了那是主人的鞋,于是,这狗便用嘴把一只鞋叼着,慢慢走回去,把它放在比尔的床边.对另一只鞋狗也如法炮制.
当比尔醒来时,看见床边的鞋,吓坏了.喔!天啊,这鞋自己会走路,得把它处理掉.他想.然后,他来到家门口,点了一堆火,把鞋放了进去.
正在那时,刮来一阵大风,火势很快蔓延,点着了房子.邻居赶紧出来,可是已经晚了,房子烧毁了,留下的只有再次被那只忠实的狗抢救出来的那双旧鞋.
(3) Where is my cat ?
Jeff’s favorite food is fish . And when he had enough money, he always bought some and took them back to his home for his dinner in the evening. But when his wife saw the fish, she was always very happy and said to herself ,“ Ha! Now I will invite my friends to lunch and we will eat this. They like fish very much,don’t they?.”
So when Jeff came home in the evening after work, the fish was never there and his wife always said,“Fish? oh, your cat ate it! What a terrible animal!” And she gave Jeff some soup and bread for his dinner.
But one evening when this happened again, Jeff became very angry. He took his cat and his wife to the shop near his house and weighted the cat carefully. . Then he turned to his wife and said , “My fish weighed pounds. This cat weighs three pounds, too. My fish is here , you say. Then where is my cat?”

杰夫对食物有一嗜好,那就是吃鱼.并且每每有几个闲钱时,总要买点回家准备在晚饭时饱餐一顿.不过,杰夫的老婆一看到鱼也会很兴奋并喃喃自语道：“ 哈,哈, 俺又可以请朋友午饭时来尝尝鲜了,他们不都好这一口吗?”
所以,每当杰夫晚上下班回到家时,鱼总没见着,他老婆还总说,“鱼啊?哦,你那只猫吃了,真是一可怕的动物!”
不过,一天傍晚,当这一幕又重演的时候,杰夫火了.他把老婆和猫一并带到隔壁的商店并仔细地把猫给过称,然后对他老婆说道,“看看,我的鱼三磅重,猫也三磅重,如果我的鱼在这儿的话,那么,你说,我的猫在哪儿去了呢?”
