NEW JOINT CRIME PREVENTION PARTNERSHIP
FOR THE CENTRAL COAST

Minister for Police Tony Kelly has today announced a new joint Central
Coast Crime Prevention Partnership for the Brisbane Water and Tuggerah
Lakes Police Local Area Commands.
These partnerships bring together police,government departments and local
councils,and are a powerful approach to addressing crime prevention and
anti-social behaviour issues on a local level,Mr Kelly said.
They will tackle the lingering effects of crime in the area by bringing people
together to share their collective resources and know-how.
The Central Coast CPP is scheduled to hold their first meeting on 20 October
and will begin work on crime prevention strategies.
The Central Coast partnership will be chaired by Tuggerah Lakes Local Area
Commander,Superintendent Dave Swilks,and will look to reducing levels of
assaults (non-domestic violence),robbery and steal from motor vehicle
crimes,with a particular focus on alcohol related offences.
Mr Kelly said similar partnerships were being rolled out to key locations
across NSW and included government agencies,local councils and
community groups.
In recognition of the critical role that local government has to play in crime
prevention,the Gosford City Council and Wyong Shire Council will be invited
to nominate a representative to be the Deputy Chair of this important initiative.
In particular,the partnerships will include state government agencies including
the Office of Liquor,Gaming and Racing,the Departments of Education and
Training,Community Services,Health and Housing NSW.
Through cooperation we can target the economic,social and health issues
that can contribute to crime.
Mr Kelly said the partnerships will be required to develop their strategies,
which are approved by a group made up representatives from the NSW Police
Force,Attorney Generals Department and the Department of Premier and
Cabinet.
