北面靠着长江,对岸就是夷陵.顺着长江再往东,流过狼尾滩,就会经过人滩.袁山松说：“两个滩相距不过二里,人滩,因江水冲刷而非常陡峭.滩的南边有青石,夏天被江水淹没,而冬天则又露出来,走几十步就有一块,形状都像人的脸,有大有小；甚至连胡须毛发都清晰分明,因此被命名为“人滩”.
