More than 1,400 pupils and teachers of the Howard of Effingham School made a lot of their own noise in aid of Red Nose day charities .They achieved an official new Guinness world record in the process!
The Howard gathered "the largest number of people playing kazoos while patting their heads and rubbing their stomachs".This showed just how the young people of today are willing to help change the lives of the millions of poor and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa today.
The kazoo is a wind instrument which has been used in Africa for hundreds of years .It was used originally to disguise the sound of somebody's voice or to imitate animals,often for various ceremonial purposes.
The years old pupil Emily Stanford commented," It was great fun and certainly brought some relief from tiring study for all of us but ,more importantly,it was for a great cause and that's what it was really about."
The weather took a turn for the worst.Soon,as the children and teachers gathered to play their kazoos,the Howard's playing field was changed into a mudslide After a minute of playing,the crowd applauded and got ready for the difficult part.Everyone had to pat their heads and rub their stomachs at the same time.
The " Guinness Book of World Records" officer kept an eagle eye on the proceedings.They all had to keep going for a full minute and make sure not to stop doing any of the head patting and stomach rubbing at the same time .Whistles blew and the crowd clapped when the record was secured!
