To Celia
By JONSON,BEN
Kiss me,sweet:the wary lover
Can your favours keep,and cover,
When the common courting jay
All your bounties will betray.
Kiss again:no creature comes.
Kiss,and score up wealthy sums
On my lips,thus hardly sundered,
While you breathe.First give a hundred,
Then a thousand,then another
Hundred,then unto the tother
Add a thousand,and so more:
Till you equal with the store,
All the grass that Romney yields,
Or the sands in Chelsea fields,
Or the drops in silver Thames,
Or the stars,that gild his streams,
In the silent summer nights,
When youths ply their stol’n delights.
That the curious may not know
How to tell them as they flow,
And the envious,when they find,
What their number is,be pined.
A Red,Red Rose
By BURNS,ROBERT
O,my Luve’s like a red,red rose
That’s newly sprung in June:
O,my Luve’s like the melodie
That’s sweetly played in tune.
As fair art thou,my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still,my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:
Till a’ the seas gang dry,my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
And I will luve thee still,my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare thee weel,my only Luve!
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again,my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.
When You Are Old
By YEATS,WILLIAM BUTLER
When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire,take down this book,
And slowly read,and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once,and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true;
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face.
And bending down beside the glowing bars
Murmur,a little sadly,how love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
She Walks In Beauty
By BYRON,GEORGE GORDON
She walks in beauty,like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more,one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure,how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek and o’er that brow,
So soft,so calm,yet eloquent,
The smiles that win,the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
