Abstract：The research on the audit of governmental performances came into being in the nineteenth eighties; by drawing on the foreign theories and practical experiences coupled with the national conditions in China, specialists and scholars had conducted a lot of discussions and analyses on the subject during this period, and innovatively piloted the launching of governmental performance audit in the country. Practical proof shows that the auditing of governmental performances has played a big role in promoting the improvement of government administration and in enhancing the cost effectiveness of public resource utilization.

At the same time, in view of the positive changes in China’s political, economic and social environments, public demand on the audit of governmental performances is getting higher; however, the job is confronted with many problems as it is still in the infant stage. By conducting extensive investigations on the developing situations of China’s governmental performance audit, and taking into consideration the country’s actual conditions, this article attempts to discover and analyze its existing problems and proposes relevant strategies to improve its development.
