Chapter 1 The Journey Began
It was a very busy day,as usual,in this small seaside town.The street merchants were calling out the items they were selling and the buyers were haggling with the merchants.Traders got off the newly arrived ships,and porters were dashing around with bags of goods on their bare backs.From time to time there would be a loud “crash” followed by an angry threat “you’ll be paying for that!”
However,all these noises seemed to be blocked out from a room on the second floor of a small orphanage.In there,a woman was braiding the hair of a young girl,who was looking at her patched up blueberry dress and tugging on it.
“Do you have everything you need Quiritus?” asked the woman of thirty-something who had a brown dress on that looked more like an apron made up of some old tablecloth from two Christmas before
“Yes.” Answered the girl.“And thank you Bubble for the skirt.”
“You’re welcome Quiritus.I can’t let you go out dressed up like a beggar.Do you know how to go to Prontera?”
“Yes.”
“Remember,you have to stop by Payon and then go to Prontera.”
“I know.”
“If you get lost,ask any of the guards in town and they’ll be more than happy to help you.”
“Bubble,I know---I’m not a child anymore.I’m 14!” said Quiritus who was still tugging on her dress with shaking hands.It was her first dress in 14 years---she grew up wearing rags.
“Oh,I know Quiritus,but I still think of you as that little child who hides under my bed covers when thunders crack outside,who plays on the beach and brings back tens of seashells with sparkles in the eyes,and who always wants to grow up faster.” Said Bubble as she tied Quiritus’ two braids with a black string.
“There,” she smiled.
Quiritus turned around to face Bubble and Bubble smiled.“You’ve grown up so much….Are you sure for having the food I made for you?”
“Bubble!…..”
“Since age 9,you’ve been tagging behind me on all errands,and you know how to talk to people,still I’m worried.”
Quiritus suddenly leaned forward and hugged Bubble.“Thank you Bubble.”
Bubble smiled again and held Quiritus for a few moments before leading her downstairs.
