China’s 5,000-meter Olympic champion Wang Junxia is suffering from a serious condition brought on by stress and her heavy training schedule (日程), according to her coach. “Wang Junxia is suffering from serious neurasthenia (神经衰弱), which is causing her insomnia (失眠) and even making it painful for her to run,” coach Wang Dezhen told reporters. In an interview with China’s National television station CCTV, Wang said that her headaches come whenever she runs. Neurasthenia is a general term for a condition whose symptoms range (症状范围) from fatigue (疲劳) and anxiety to listlessness (倦怠无力).
“The condition has been brought on by her hard training schedule these past few years and she needs a good rest.” said Mao, who took over Wang’s training when the long-distance star split with long-time coach Ma Junren in late 1994.

There are two factors that determine an individual’s intelligence (一个人的智商). The first is the sort of brain he is born with. Human brains differ considerably(相当地), some being more capable (有能力的) than others. But no matter how good a brain he has to begin with, an individual will have a low order of intelligence unless he has opportunities to learn. So the second factor is what happens to the individual — the sort of environment (surroundings) in which he is brought up. If an individual is disabled environmentally, it is likely that his brain will fail to develop and he will never obtain(获得)the level of intelligence of which he is capable.
The importance of environment in determining an individual’s intelligence can be shown by the case history(个人历史) of the identical (相同的,同胞的) twins were three months old, their parents died, and they were placed in separate foster homes. Peter was reared (抚养) by parents of low intelligence in a separate community with poor educational opportunities. Mark was reared in the home of well-to-do parents who had been to college. He was read to as a child, sent to good schools, and given every opportunity to be encouraged intellectually. This environmental difference continued until the twins were in their late teens, when they were given tests to measure their intelligence. Mark’s I.Q. was 125, twenty-five points higher than the average and fully forty points higher than his identical brother. Given equal opportunities, the twins, having identical brains, would have tested at roughly the same level.
56. This passage can best be titled .
A. Measuring Your Intelligence B. intelligence and Environment
C. The Case of Peter and Mark D. How the Brain Influences Intelligence
57. The best statement of the main idea of this passage is that .

58. According to the passage, the average I.Q. is .
A. 85 B. 100 C. 110 D. 125

A. individuals with identical brains are seldom tested at the same level.
B. an individual’s intelligence is determined only by his environment
C. lack of opportunity blocks the growth of intelligence
D. changes of environment produce changes in the structure of the brain
60. This passage suggests that an individual’s I. Q. .

Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we’ve recently had about whether we should know our parents’ income.
We do have different opinions on this matter. Most of us(about 70%) think we should know our parents’ income since it will help us understand how hard our parents have to work, no matter how much they earn. Then we will study harder and will not waste money any more. We may also learn to share our parents’ trouble.
About 30% of my classmates think it unnecessary to let the children know how much their parents earn. If they know their parents have enough money to support the family, they will not study hard since they needn’t worry about the future. It is said, especially when their parents have a higher income, the children will easily form a wasteful habit.
In my opinion, ---
Yours,
Li Ming.
