In a wide point of view, under different cultural backgrounds, there are two different universal value tendencies: Individualism tendency and Collectivism tendency. The Individualism tendency emphasizes that individuals are more important than a community, that personal priority is higher than its duty and responsibility towards the community, and an individual's needs is also higher than the needs of a community. While the Collectivism tendency is the opposite, which stresses that the community is more important than each individual, that the duty and responsibility towards the community have higher priority over personal rights, and the needs of the community is also higher than the needs of each individual.
When dealing with people who have these two different values, in order to avoid such conflicts, both sides shall make their efforts. Collectivists shall work on their feeling of collectivism superiority, while individualists shall improve in their aspect of self-centeredness.
