Have you noticed that chocolate bars are shrinking?The price of chocolate and sugar is always going up.The chocolate bar-makers pass the money onto buyers.They know that people don’t want to pay more,so they make smaller chocolate bars.In one year a chocolate bar may go from 150g to 125g to 100g in weight while the price stays the same.When the bar gets so small that no one will buy it,they will make it larger and the price goes up,too.
My grandfather was a teacher.He was the headmaster of a school for boys between the ages of 13 and 18.I knew that he was a kind and gentle man at heart,because when I was young and he was old,he gave me presents and set me on his knees and told me stories.But I believed the boys at his school were afraid of him.At school when he walked into a room full of noisy boys,there was silence at once.When he looked at a boy with a certain look in his eyes,that boy went red in the face and looked down at his shoes.If a boy brought him poor,careless work,that was not the best that boy could do,my grandfather picked up the boy’s book and threw it across the room,shouting,“Do it all again and bring it back first the next morning!” If the boy was late,or he forgot to bring the work,he had to do it again and again.My grandfather never forgot.He was a very different man at school from the man I saw day by day in his own room.
