/>Reading a novel is a very active process. It is true that the writer does a lot of work, but the reader also has to work hard. When you read a text, you have to do some or all of these: imagine a scene in your head; understand clearly what the writer is trying to say; and agree or disagree with the writer. Reading a novel opens someone elses point of view and experience to you. It can give you an opportunity to see common things in your life from a new perspective that allows you to live more consciously. A book may educate you through factual content, and even compell you to constructive acts. It can give you something to say that is interesting to others. It at least passes the time in a manner that will maintain or improve your reading speed when you may really benefit from it. Failing any of that it can put you to sleep gently.
